I was coming here to post my own after finally figuring out a way to get MusicBee up and running, but found yours to be more complete. Maybe you, or someone else who is more experienced with wine or linux, can help me with one little problem though, that I had when I installed MusicBee with my method, as well as with your guide: So, I'm using Linux Mint I had to install. NET Framework 4. Anyways, everything seems to work well except that during music playback I get audio skips every one to two minutes. Usually just a very small skip, maybe a tenth of a second, sometimes a longer one. I have already searched the internet for audio playback skips in wine, but found nothing that worked for me. Does anyone have any ideas?

Iaith Newbie Posts: 2. I followed the steps and everything works so far except the mentioned bugs. I am running Manjaro I have the problem that MB doesn't recognize my with cable connected device, while manjaro does. MB-remote also doesn't seem to find a connection, not sure if they are related - something about them not beeing able to look outside the box? Anyone had a similar problem, if - how did you manage to solve it? PS:Audio blips i also sometimes encounter, though much more rarely. jeroni Newbie Posts: 1. It works pretty well on Arch. Is it normal or am I doing something wrong? Durhammer Newbie Posts: 6. Quote from: StfN on March 17, , PM. Okay, now there's an issue. I manually set up all the radio stations I have in both Cantata on Linux and in MusicBee 3. They all work well in both environments. However, I have ONE station that won't run in MB under Wine on Linux Mint.

Wonderful station, "That Station" thatstation. Originally, MB marked it as having an unknown bit rate. I tried setting it to k, k, and finally after checking MB on Windows, which showed it as 64K, to that. Same result. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! dll for that aac decoding is included in windows. Oops, so sorry! I think I'd actually seen that elsewhere in the forums and stupidly thought it was something that was incorporated into the newer releases. I found the latest download link in the forums and put in in, and SHAZAM! Thanks, Steven!

And thanks for the reminder that there's lots of solutions buried in the forums if you search 'em. I'm going to go back and review the newbie details about searching now. Well, crud. I need to stay away from "Playing Now"! Probably too graphic intensive under Wine. Overheated my old Samsung RF laptop and Linux crashed. Started monitoring CPU usage with the "same" streams not entirely the same at the same time, nature of the beast running Cantata MPD component mostly and MusicBee. Granted, Cantata doesn't have the same cool album art and visulalizer displays. It has an "I nfo " icon that shows Wikipedia etc. text about the track and lyrics, so just text. Might be a plugin for that, but I've never used it.

Guess I can at least do without the album art -- off to find out how to turn that off Any other hints at how to minimize resources would be appreciated, folks! Okay, things are MUCH better when disabling the sigh, unfortunately, REALLY cool Visualizer on the Now Playing tab. Guess I can live without that cool cuteness grymas Newbie Posts: 2. Thank you for this guide. I'm getting a weird issue, MusicBee will randomly freeze or hang, for a second or two, before resuming. The whole app is frozen for that time and I can't interact with anything. Something to note is that the music playing doesn't skip once the freezing stops, it just resumes exactly where it was. Everything else works fine, and this freeze happens every few minutes 1,2 or 3 minutes in general. I've tried on a 32 and 64bit prefix, i've reinstalled it on wine a few times. Read times. on: November 12, , PM. MusicBee is THE best music library manager out there.

Sad to have to break up with it for switching OS. Now I noticed making MusicBee open-source is something the developers are uncomfortable with, and I respect that, whatever the reason for it is. I don't see any reason for annoying anyone with this. I am currently learning to code and am finishing up high school with the intention to study in system engineering. Because of this I started learning to code in a few different languages. What does it take to be part of the developer team? I am interested in investing time and effort to bring MusicBee to the Linux community. I'm currently interested in having it run on Debian, though I would like to make it accessible for nearly all Linux distros, if possible. Thank you. phred Global Moderator Hero Member Posts: Re: Linux? Reply 1 on: November 12, , PM. There is no development team. MusicBee is developed and maintained by one person, who does this in his spare time as a hobby. While MB is free, it is not open source.

Any idea what might be the problem. I have changed the Wine windows version to 7 via winecfg.

I'm researching moving to Linux Mint and have read through the various threads about running MusicBee on Linux. Back at the end of January, Wine 5. From what I've read about the changes in Wine, it seems like it should be easier to run MusicBee on Linux. Does anyone have experience installing MusicBee under Wine 5. Any tips you'd like to share, for a Mint newbee, trying to get MusicBee running would also be appreciated - thanks Cor Newbie Posts: 2. Re: MusicBee for Linux ubuntu Reply 51 on: April 27, , AM. Hi there, One week ago the HDD of my main pc laptop crashed. I had backups, so nothing worse than mild annoyance.

That was also the moment I realized I was relying on Windows far too much. So, I got one old and one ancient laptop out of the cupboard, loaded them with Linux and revived them. One of those now guards my odd Gb music collection, all of my CDs's and LPs that I digitized some time ago. And that, obviously, made me long for the one application that might persuade me to keep Windows installed on one partition, although now I want really get rid of it altogether. We all know I am talking about MusicBee. I found this thread and went about installing Wine. Long story short: that was 4 hours ago. I did - finally - manage to install MusicBee without any error messages. However, My euphoria was short-lived: MusicBee was added to the Wine menu, but when I click on its icon, nothing happens. As in zilch, zip, nada, niente, nichts. Nothing at all. I wish I got an error message, but even that, apparently, is too much to ask.

I am about to give up. I've had it, to be frank. But before I do, could anyone possibly have any idea what might have gone wrong and what my next step can be. Short of downloading Windows 10 and creating a virtual machine? Re: MusicBee for Linux ubuntu Reply 52 on: June 03, , PM. Just thought I'd mention that I've given up on getting MB to work under Linux Mint Too many errors and far too slow. I'm still running a dual boot system with Windows 10, more or less just to be able to run MusicBee. However, I am starting to realize that this is not a winning setup. So, I've been looking around for an alternative for MB on Linux.

Mind you, no player out there is as good as MB and neither is Guayadeque. It's still pretty darn good though, better even than the other alternatives mentioned in this thread, IMHO. I'm not trying to talk anyone out of using MusicBee, mind you. On the contrary: it's a fantastic piece of software that I would recommend to anyone who loves music. And I have. I'm getting more than fed up with Windows 10 though and the way Microsoft is handling updates. And what's more, Linux Mint is prettier and a lot faster than Windows 10 on the same machine. And I am at least as productive on Linux as I am on Windows. Plus, I am not a gamer, although Linux is rapidly catching up in that regard as well.

So, there you have it. I still hope that someone out there will one day port MusicBee to Linux. Until that day comes, I will live with joyful memories of MusicBee and in the presence of a somewhat lesser, but still pretty powerful god named Guayadeque. Re: MusicBee for Linux ubuntu Reply 53 on: June 03, , PM. It seems there is quite a lot of continued demand from Linux users to get MusicBee working on their systems. But by now it is quite safe to assume that there will never be a Linux version of MusicBee. For me this raises a question for 'the other side' the Linux world on this: Linux could be described as a coder's universe. It's population and user base probably consists of a lot of coders, and the open source concept of software is highly valued there. There must be a lot of coding talent in the Linux world. Are they not up to such a challenge?

Re: MusicBee for Linux ubuntu Reply 55 on: June 27, , PM. I share some of the same feelings as Cor and other users on this thread about dual booting Windows I have had enough of Windows nonsense as a daily os and switched over. It is a real shame, honestly, that this program isn't moving to linux any time soon. I found this thread a while ago and kept my eyes on any change in this decision. I'm sure there are MANY others still just looking and waiting.

I like and appreciate the decision to want to keep control of your code, it's yours, but please consider once again having some presence on linux. It is such a nice player and I haven't quite found something that can replace it for me. phred Global Moderator Hero Member Posts: Re: MusicBee for Linux ubuntu Reply 56 on: June 27, , PM. You can look and wait as long as you want. If you've read this and the other linux threads, you should have noticed that Steven has no intention of porting MB to linux.
